Used Zeiss Binoculars For Sale5/1/2021
I will also accept returns if you are not satisfied with them so long as you notify me in advance and begin the process of shipping them back to me within 14 days after the date that you received them. This largehigh powered glass was West German Zeiss companies flagship binocular from the 1970s thru end of the century.
The main class of users who purchased them were hunters because of they were: (1) reasonably portable, (2) worked very well for long distancehigh power viewing, and (3) they had superb optics. However, as a result of demand from hunters Zeiss brought them back into production around the year 2000 but them phased them out once again (and this time permanently in late 2003). One complaint often made about the earlier models was that they had short eye relief so with the last version they brought out in 2000 they modified them to provide longer eye relief. ![]() The T also signifies that they had a new and more improved version of Zeisss T coatings than the earlier versions of that binocular had. There were far fewer of the BGAT models made (and also as a result of their other optical advantages) than the earlier GAT model so today the BGATs are in greater demand and command higher prices on the used market. In early 2003 Astronomy Magazine published a review the Phil Harrington had done of this binocular, the Nikon 18x70s, the Fujinon 16x70s and several other binoculars in that aperture sizepower class. Despite the fact that the Nikon and Fujinon binoculars had obvious power and aperture size advantages in comparison to these 15x60s, Phil singled out the Zeiss 15x60 BGATs as being in a class of its own and was clearly (overall) the best of the bunch. I owned a pair of the Nikon 18x70s at that time and was reasonably (but not entirely) satisfied with them so based on Phils review I decided to give the Zeiss 15x60 BGATs a try. The first night I got to try them on the overhead Milky Way sky I was very pleased, they provided much better edge sharpness that the Nikons, bright stars didnt spike in them, and they provided superb contrast so all in all I much preferred them to the Nikons (which are still a very good binocular) and have been using them for the past 14 years. And over those years Ive also let numerous people try them out at star parties and almost everyone who looks through them will make favorable comments about what great views of the night sky they provide. As for the basic stats of these binoculars, they have provide a 4.30 degree true field and they have a 65 degree apparent field. Used Zeiss Binoculars For Sale Full Field TheyTheir eye relief is 16mm and when I fold their rubber eye guards back I can see their full field they provide when I have my eyeglasses on. Their 60mm of aperture enables them to collect 73 times as much light as a dark adapted human eye and thats also 44 more light than a 50mm binocular can collect. They weigh 56 ounces and between that and their high power you almost have to use them with a mount of some type. Their exit pupil is 4.00mm so older users can use them without having any of their aperture wasted. The focuser wheel on these binoculars works very smooth and surely and in my opinion the overall condition of these binoculars probably falls somewhere in the middle between excellent and superb. Zeiss did not provide a case for them so I acquired one on the aftermarket and am including it with the binoculars. Thats the one that Nikon makes for its Prostar and Astrolux binoculars and it also works with this binocular. My asking price for these binoculars is 1795.00 and that includes the seller paying the shipping and insurance costs to a CONUS address and absorbing the PayPay fees if you prefer to make payment that way. However, if you are willing to mail me a Cashiers check in payment I will be willing to knock 3 off of the selling price. If you live outside of the US and are interested in purchasing them payment will have to be made (in US funds) via PayPal and I will have to charge you the difference of what it will cost me to ship the binoculars to you in comparison to what it would cost me to ship them to a buyer who lives within the United States.
